Afghanistan Refugee Support Form

As the current humanitarian crisis unfolds in Afghanistan, Illinois stands willing and ready to welcome Afghan refugee families.

On August 29, 2021, President Biden directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to lead implementation of ongoing efforts across the federal government to support vulnerable Afghans, such as Afghan women and girls, journalists, former government employees, and the LGTQIA community, as they safely resettle in the United States. These coordinated efforts are known as Operation Allies Welcome.

In Illinois, we welcome those who are seeking safety and freedom from persecution. We recognize that refugee resettlement is a lifeline our country provides to those fleeing war and violence. When we accept and welcome refugee communities, we all thrive. These communities are a vital part in bringing diversity, culture, and contributing to our economy.

This is why Illinois is a welcoming and inclusive place for all who call our state home and we welcome them with open arms.
