Let's Talk About Reasonable Accommodations:
If a client has a physical or mental health problem or disability, and they need…
- A change in or policies that would give them an equal chance to access housing at a particular property,
- A change in the way that property communicates with your client or gives them information,
- A physical change to their housing unit,
You, as their service provider, may help them ask for this kind of change, which is called a Reasonable Accommodation.
The Reasonable Accommodation Request shows that your client has a disability or health problem that interferes with their use of the current housing, and if the request is reasonable, the property will try to make the changes per the request. Your client can ask for this change by contacting the Property Manager and filling out a reasonable accommodation or by contacting Lore Baker at lore.baker@illinois.gov or Alexis DeWeese at alexis.deweese@illinois.gov to request a reasonable accommodation form.
Credit Score & Background Check Tip:
SRN Waitlist applicants may have poor credit scores or criminal histories that show up when a property manager runs a credit or background check through the housing application process. Encourage your clients to be forthcoming with this information and plan to help them fill out a reasonable accommodation if necessary.
Please emphasize with your clients that providing Fraudulent Answers or False Information on the housing application may get them denied
Service Provider Tip:
When you regularly update your waitlist applicants' information in the SRN web app with any changes in household size, unit size, amenities and income, you increase the odds that your client will have a successful match and obtain housing even sooner!
BELOW ARE STATEWIDE REFERRAL NETWORK (SRN) UNITS THAT ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. THESE UNITS DON'T HAVE ANY PERSONS ON OUR ONLINE WAITING LIST OR PRE-SCREENING, ASSESSMENT, INTAKE & REFERRAL (PAIR) MODULE THAT HAVE SELECTED TO LIVE IN THESE COMMUNITIES AND FIT THE CRITERIA.
These aren't the only SRN units available, just the units that don't currently have referrals. In order for your consumers to have access to all of the available SRN units every month, they have to be entered into the PAIR module or waiting list. Make it a habit to add all of the consumers you are working with to find affordable housing to the waiting list that is within theILHousingSearch.org website!
