Payments of Claims (pdf)
July 7, 2015
As you know, the SMART Act permits claims to be submitted for services within 180 days of the date that service was rendered. Generally, throughout most of the fiscal year, this does not represent a problem with regard to reimbursement for services rendered. However, clean claims submitted after the fiscal year lapse period (typically in August), while continuing to be eligible for payment, run the risk of being paid through the court of claims as dollars appropriated for the year in which those services were rendered are no longer available after the lapse period. The purpose of this communication is to urge providers to submit their FY15 NMRO claims for payment as soon as possible. Please note that this memorandum should not be understood as an attempt to shorten the period of time for which claims may be submitted. Again, providers have up to 180 days from the date that service was rendered to submit clean claims for payment.
