Staff Announcement: Elizabeth Diaz Castillo - Director of the Office of Hispanic and Latino Affairs

It is with pleasure that we announce the new Director of the Office of Hispanic and Latino Affairs, Elizabeth Diaz Castillo. Ms. Diaz Castillo joins us from the Department of Healthcare Family Services. She has been with the State of Illinois for four years working in the Office of the Director for HFS and as the Senior Health Insurance Program Director for the Department of Insurance. During her time with the State, she has worked on many important projects such as Medicare open enrollment and Get Covered Illinois.

Ms. Diaz Castillo has extensive experience working in communities where many immigrant Latino families live below the federal income poverty guidelines including Back Of the Yards, Pilsen, Little Village and Chicagoland suburbs. She has worked to provide outreach information on different topics like education, health care, immigration, child care, food and other services. Twenty years of working in the not-for-profit world while living alongside the families she served has provided her firsthand knowledge of the experiences of Latino families in Illinois. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Diaz Castillo as the Director of the Office of Hispanic and Latino Affairs effective December 1st.
