WAG 17-04-02-a Reopening a Denied Medical Case

PM 17-04-02-a

Example 1: Mr. A's medical application is denied on 3/4 due to failure to provide all required verification. On 5/1, Mr. A files a new application. It is not required for the worker to compare the two applications. The caseworker registers the new application, using the date it was filed.

Example 2: Ms. B files a medical application on 2/14 and requests backdating. The application is denied 3/12 due to failure to provide all required verification. On 4/1, Ms. B sends in the verification needed to prove eligibility. Since the information was provided within 60 days of the denial notice, the worker re-registers the application using the  original application date and approves with medical backdating for the eligible months.

Example 3: Mrs. C's medical application is denied 3/12 due to failure to provide verification. On 3/20, she provides the required information. The caseworker re-registers the application using the original date. Mrs. C is income ineligible and the application is denied due to excess income. Mrs. C receives a second denial notice due to income. She may still file an appeal based on the decision to deny the application due to income.

Example 4: Mr. D's medical application is denied due to income on 2/2. On 3/1, Mr. D provides information that his income has now decreased. The FCRC does not reopen the application because the original denial was not due to failure to provide verification. Mr. D is advised to reapply since his circumstances have changed.

Example 5: Mrs. F's medical application is denied 2/12 due to failure to provide verification. On 4/22, Mrs. F provides the information necessary to prove eligibility. Since it is more than 60 days since the Date of Notice for the denial, the FCRC does not reopen the application. The client must reapply.

Examples of Reopening SNAP benefits on a Medical Case
