Michael J. McCotter

Michael McCotter was formally named the Acting Inspector General for the Department of Human Services by Governor Pat Quinn on December 10, 2012. His nomination as Inspector General was formally confirmed by the Illinois Senate on May 8, 2013. Inspector General McCotter is a career law enforcement professional, having served with the Chicago Police Department in several senior executive positions for over 37 years. He retired as the Chief of Patrol. He has also served with the Illinois State Police as an Inspector and the Illinois Department of Corrections as the Chief Public Safety Officer. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lewis University and has attended numerous police administration programs throughout the country. These include those programs offered by Northwestern University, The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Secret Service.
