Summary:

  • Implementation of the new semi-permanent HFS Medical Cards is anticipated to start with the March 2013 mailing schedule.

State law (Public Act 96-0940) requires that HFS issue semi-permanent medical cards instead of monthly medical cards.

CN 13.02/S, Coming Soon! Changes to Your Medical Card! (pdf), will be inserted with the February 2013 medical cards. This notice is also being mailed to category 98 cases and unmet spenddown cases. This is the second of two client notices intended to prepare clients for the new cards. See the Informational Memo dated 11/16/12, CN 13.01, Changes to HFS Medical Card. 

If all system testing goes as planned, we expect to begin issuing the new semi-permanent cards during the March 2013 regular mailing schedule. An upcoming manual release will be posted within the next month with more details.
