Local employers will share success stories and provide information about their business, available positions and what type of training and qualifications are necessary for employment. Employers will be available to answer questions from the students about seeking employment.

Panel speakers will include representatives from the following area employers:

  • Looking Glass Hair and Nail Salon, Shelly Lockwood
  • Big E's Auto, Erv Beckner
  • Marigold Rehab and Health Care/Petersen Health Care, Charlie Brooks
  • Galesburg Animal Hospital, Amanda Pickel

DRS' Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program is operated from 44 offices across the state of Illinois and employs approximately 230 VR counselors, who assist persons with disabilities in becoming employed. Staff provides vocational guidance and counseling, assist customers in developing an individualized plan for employment, and arrange for provisions of training, restorative services and job placement to help customers achieve their employment goals.

A Transition Planning Committee (TPC) is a consortium of local members of schools, agencies, and not-for-profit organizations, parents of children with disabilities and people with disabilities who collaborate to improve the transition life-cycle from high school to a successful adult life. The Transition Planning Committees are powerful tools for improving the local capacity for delivering effective services for students with disabilities in local communities.
