The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), in partnership with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, will celebrate the 8th annual "Unity Day" on Friday, October 5 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the JLM Abundant Life Center in Chicago, 2622 W. Jackson Blvd. The theme for this year's event is "Accessing Services Through Community Partnership." IDHS Secretary Michelle R.B. Saddler will be the keynote speaker.
"We are proud of the partnerships we have developed over the past 15 years and Unity Day is one example of what can be accomplished when government and community come together to serve our diverse community," said Secretary Saddler. "Our vision is to create a Culture of Caring for our customers and one another. We want to achieve this vision in each and every one of our neighborhood offices, hospitals and other facilities."
Unity Day is a gathering of churches, community organizations, businesses and citizens. The event will increase awareness of IDHS services, foster partnerships and provide potential job opportunities to participants. Activities will include a job fair, health screenings, information on social services available in the community and a free lunch. The event is free and open to surrounding community residents.
