Illinois School for the Deaf Celebrates the Class of 2011

DHS Secretary Michelle R. B. Saddler and DHS Chief Legal Counsel Mary-Lisa Sullivan attended The Illinois School for the Deaf's 148th Commencement Exercises on May 27 in the Marshall Multipurpose Building. Valedictorian Daniel Saavedra from Rockford and Salutatorian Jeffery Willoughby, Jr. from Jacksonville were the class speakers. The 2011 class song was "Fireworks", the class theme was "Success" and class motto was "Success does not come to you, you go to Success." The Commencement Address was given by 1999 ISD Graduate Nathan Kester. Kester, formerly from New Berlin currently resides in California where he is a Webmaster at Google. The Order of the Tiger recipient award winner was retired ISD Elementary Principal Sue Brosmith.

Superintendent Marybeth Lauderdale presented diplomas to; Penelope Lopez and Jeffery Willoughby, Jr from Jacksonville, Ezekiel Adams, Dominick Brown, Leticia Campos, Sherise Ferguson, Alejandro Fitz, Ana Hernandez, Maryam Hussein, Nelson Lai, Robby Lira, Marlet Mancera, Javon Miller, Otis Monroe, Paris Nooner, Eriberta Popoca, Pedro Ramos, Cesar Rodriquez, Nahshon Smythe, and Lilliana Zarco from Chicago, Jeffrey Brosseau from Kankakee, Brittany Burke from Bluffs, Deysy Cervantes, Lamont Jones, Isabella Natalie, Daniel Saavedra, and Aldale Williamson from Rockford, Luis Enriquez from Evanston, Cole Fink from Lincoln, Korice Fitch from Joliet, Debra Hersrud from Oak Forest, Jimmy Holmes from Riverdale, Jerome Jackson III from Springfield, Dwayne Johnson, Jr from Crestwood, Kegan Mercer from Carmi, Jose Perez from Harvard, Bailee Stephens from Cowden, Dylan Szymovicz from Spring Valley, Dominque Terry from Chicago Heights, Alexander Thompson from Geneva, Xavier Vaccaro from Woodridge, Dorian Wallace from Madison, and Thomas Widurski from Wheeling.

2011 Class Advisors were ISD Educators Kathy Hughes and Chris Kuhn.
