Youth of color are also disproportionately brought into the Illinois justice system for domestic battery cases. While African American youth comprise approximately 22% of the state's juvenile population, 32.7% of youth arrested for this offense between 2000 and 2007 were African American. Hispanic youth comprised at least 3.5% of youth arrested for domestic battery.
