MR #10.18: TANF Program Changes

Summary:

• As the result of a state law, changes to the TANF program are effective July 1, 2010.
• The initial employment deduction for determining TANF eligibility is based on 50% of the FPL.
• The Work Pays earned income disregard used to determine the TANF grant amount is increased from 2/3 to 3/4.
• Cash assistance is authorized effective with the date of a TANF application or SWAP request.
• To comply with processing deadlines, decisions on TANF application or SWAP requests must be made within 30 days of application.
• If approved, payments must be available no later than 30 days from the cash request. 
• Mandatory participation in work, and education and training activities is defered to the 31st day after application.
