Eligibility for TSNAP
To qualify for TSNAP, the TANF household must already be receiving SNAP benefits at the time the cash benefit is canceled for one of the reasons below:
- Ineligible for TANF due to 60-month lifetime limit.
- Caretaker relative in an adult only case is ineligible.
- No eligible child.
- Customer requested cancellation.
- Employed household member requests cancellation.
- Income more than TANF level.
- Case closed due to earnings from a person included or not included in the case.
- Ineligible due to voluntary or nonvoluntary contribution from someone living in or outside of the home.
- Parent liability/Stepparent liability/Sponsor's liability.
- Ineligible due to receipt of federal, state or local government benefits.
- New or increased benefits from non-governmental program.
- Lump sum payment
A TANF household still qualifies for TSNAP if the cash is canceled for one of the above reasons and the household continues to receive medical benefits.
A TANF case does not qualify for TSNAP benefits if the cash benefits are discontinued due to:
- noncompliance with TANF requirements; or
- moving out of state; or
- unable to locate.
Households who are receiving TSNAP benefits prior to moving out of state may continue to receive benefits out of state, unless an application for TANF or regular SNAP benefits is approved in the other state.
Note: Some cancellation reasons previously allowed with the implementation of TSNAP are not valid now due to changes in TANF policy that no longer affect eligibility. For example, TANF households may now receive all child support payments and there is no longer a resource (asset) limit.
