Policy Memo: U.S. Citizenship and Identity for Medical Programs

Summary:

Effective 07/01/06, all U.S. citizens requesting medical benefits under Family Health Plans (FHP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), children receiving General Assistance-Family and Children Assistance (GA-FCA) and Aid to the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (AABD) must provide documents showing their identity and citizenship.
Effective 07/01/06, all U.S. citizens receiving medical benefits under Family Health Plans, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), children receiving General Assistance-Family and Children Assistance (GA-FCA), and Aid to the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (AABD) must provide documents showing their identity and citizenship at the next renewal or redetermination.
Provides draft procedures for new applications and active cases containing persons who state they are U.S. citizens.
Persons who state they are U.S. citizens and do not provide documentation of citizenship or identity will not be denied, deleted, or canceled at this time.
This change does not affect policy or procedures for determining eligibility for noncitizens.
