  • Starting 10/02, the amount of the Standard Deduction depends on the size of the SNAP unit.
  • Starting 07/11, the amount of the Standard Deduction listed below is reduced in the SNAP calculations by $4.00 each month due to the implementation of the Standard Medical Deduction Demonstration Project.
  • Starting 03/15, the amount of the Standard Deduction listed below is reduced in the New Manual TextFood Assistance calculations by $7.00 each month to maintain cost neutrality of the Standard Medical Deduction Demonstration Project.

Shelter Standard For Homeless Food Assistance Units

  • The Shelter Standard for Homeless New Manual TextFood Assistance Units was eliminated 04/01/00. For the period of 04/01/00 through 08/30/19, if a homeless New Manual TextFood Assistance unit expects to be billed for housing costs, the amount verified is allowed when determining the excess shelter expenses.
  • Effective September 2019, a Homeless Shelter Standard is allowed as a deduction from net income, if a homeless New Manual TextFood Assistance unit (all members are homeless) is billed or expects to be billed for shelter costs equal to the Homeless Shelter Standard amount or less. An excess shelter deduction is not allowed when the New Manual TextFood Assistance unit (including units with a qualifying member) chooses to use the Homeless Shelter Standard. A utility allowance (including telephone) is not allowed when the Homeless Shelter Standard is used. A homeless New Manual TextFood Assistance unit that incurs housing costs of more than the Homeless Shelter Standard may claim Actual Homeless Shelter Expenses as an excess shelter deduction, if verified. A utility standard is allowed if an expense for utilities is incurred.
  • The Homeless Shelter Standard is $179 for October 2023. New Manual TextEffective October 2024, the Homeless Shelter Standard is increased to New Manual Text$190 due to the annual cost of living adjustments to the New Manual TextFood Assistance standards.

Energy Payment Amount

AFDC/AFDC-U/RRA/GA-FCA: 01/85 & After $18, or if benefit amount is less than $18, the amount of the benefit.
GA Adult Group-I Counties: 01/85 & After $10, or if benefit amount is less than $10, the amount of the benefit.
GA Adult Group-II Counties: 01/85 & After $5, or if benefit amount is less than $5, the amount of the benefit.
Interim Assistance Cases (City of Chicago only): 1l/87 & After $10, or if benefit amount is less than $10, the amount of the benefit.
  • No Energy Payment Amount is allowed for a child(ren) only case.

Starting 10/01/96 for 10/96 benefits, the EPA deduction was no longer allowed when approving an application. Active cases continued to receive the EPA deduction until a Form 552 action was processed an SNAP REDE or change to the SNAP calculation, at which time the EPA amount was reduced to $0.
