PM 23-05-02-a: Repayment - Active Cases

WAG 23-05-02-a

A repayment agreement is centrally sent with the demand letter. The repayment agreement gives the client the option of repaying the entire claim or having a portion of the monthly SNAP benefit recouped. If the client does not repay the claim in full, recoupment starts centrally. No additional notice is sent to the client.

The monthly SNAP recoupment is figured as follows:

  • For an intentional program violation (IPV), the monthly recoupment amount is the greater of $20 or 20% of the monthly benefit the SNAP unit would receive if the person having the IPV was included.
  • For an inadvertent household error (IHE) or an agency error, the monthly recoupment amount is the greater of $10 or 10% of the SNAP unit's monthly benefit.

The monthly recoupment is centrally figured and changed as the SNAP unit's benefit amount changes. The recoupment is centrally changed to maintain the correct percent.
