An employer or Work Experience/Work First sponsor may require a conviction background check before a client can work for them. Allow payment of fees for conviction background investigations when the employer requires a background check of their regular employees for the same type of job or work experience to be done by the client. Criminal history records of conviction information are obtainable by the public under the Uniform Conviction Information Act and the Health Care Worker Background Check Act.
When the client or employer/sponsor tells you that a conviction background check is needed, issue a Mercury payment to the client to cover the cost. If the client makes the request, ask for a statement from the employer or sponsor to verify the need for the background check and the amount of the charge. (The usual charge is $10.)
