SNAP Work Requirements Overview

Federal law requires most SNAP recipients in Illinois to meet specific work requirements to maintain their benefits.

Manage Your SNAP Work Requirements in ABE

You can now manage your SNAP work requirements using Manage My Case (MMC) in ABE.

  1. Log in to ABE and go to Manage My Case.
  2. On the Manage My Case page, click the Manage My SNAP Work Requirements button.
  3. The Manage My SNAP Work Requirements page will display. On this page, you can choose options to meet SNAP work requirements or request an exemption.

Note: If the Manage My SNAP Work Requirements button does not appear, individuals on the case are either exempt or not required to participate in SNAP Work Requirements.

Meeting My SNAP Work Requirements

In the Meeting My SNAP Work Requirements section, you can:

  • Click the Report My Changes link to submit a change report, or
  • Click the IL 444-2610 - SNAP Activity Report form link to download the form used to report your volunteer activity.

Once the form is completed, use the Upload Documents feature in Manage My Case to upload the completed SNAP Activity Report to your case.

Individuals Requesting Exemption

In the Individuals Requesting Exemption section, you can:

  • Click the IL 444-2340 - SNAP Work Rules - Unable to Work Determination form link.
    • This form must be completed by a healthcare professional on behalf of the individual requesting an exemption from the work requirements.
    • Once completed, use the Upload Documents feature in Manage My Case to upload the form to your case.

Request an Exemption - [Name]

In the Request an Exemption - [Name] section, you can:

  1. Click on the household member's name that appears on the page.
  2. In the Request an Exemption section, select the box that applies to that individual.
  3. Once the SNAP exemption reason is selected, click the Submit Exemptions Request button.

  4.  Follow the prompts on the next screen to complete the e-signature and then click Submit.

After you submit the exemption request

  • A tracking number will be provided. Keep this number in case you need to speak with a Caseworker.
  • You can print your exemption request by clicking the Print My Request for Exemption button.

You can locate the status of an exemption submitted thru MMC on the Case Summary page in the What is the Status of my ABE application, Redetermination or Change Report? section.
