Notice of SNAP Work Requirement Changes
Due to a change in federal law, Illinois' waiver of the time-limited SNAP policy for Able Bodied Adults without Dependents is ending.
This notice is to tell you that someone in your household may have to follow the SNAP work requirement rules to keep receiving SNAP benefits.
This change could happen as soon as November 1, 2025.
What Does This Mean?
If you are between the ages of 18 and 64 and you are not:
- Working; or
- Doing work-related activities; or
- Exempt because you are not able to work
You may only get food benefits for 3 months in a 3-year period.
In Illinois, this 3-year period goes through December 31, 2026.
What if I am Not Able to Work?
Look at the list of reasons on the attached Request for Exemption form (IL444-2341). If you think any of the reasons apply to you, fill out the form and return it to us.
If you have questions call, ABE Customer Service at 1-800-843-6154 or contact your local Family Community Resource Center (FCRC).
What if none of the reasons apply to me? Can I still get SNAP?
You may still be eligible for SNAP if you:
- Work an average of 20 hours per week (80 hours per month); or
- Take part in an approved work program run by your state or local government; or
- Are in an education or training program; or
- Do volunteer work at a community organization for the required number of hours each month; or
- Do a combination of any of these for the required number of hours each month.
You can report that you are meeting the SNAP Work Requirement online at ABE.Illinois.gov and using Manage My Case. You may also call ABE Customer Service at 1-800-843-6154, complete a Change Report form, or contact your local FCRC.

Debido a un cambio en la ley federal, la exención de Illinois en la política de SNAP por tiempo limitado para adultos sanos sin dependientes está terminando.
Este aviso es para informarle que alguien en su hogar es possible que tenga que seguir las reglas de requisito de trabajo de SNAP para continuar recibiendo beneficios de SNAP. Este cambio podría ocurrir tan pronto como el 1 de noviembre del 2025.

Aún puede ser elegible para SNAP si:

- Participas en un programa de trabajo que esta aprobado por su gobierno estatal o local; o
- Están en un programa de educación o capacitación; o
- Haces trabajo voluntario en una organización comunitaria por la cantidad de horas requeridas cada mes; o
- Haga una combinación de cualquiera de estos por la cantidad de horas requeridas cada mes.
Puede informar que está cumpliendo con el requisito de trabajo de SNAP en línea a través de ABE.Illinois.gov y seleccionando Administrar mi caso. También puede llamar al Servicio al Cliente de ABE al 1-800-843-6154, completando un formulario de Informe de cambios o comunicandose con su FCRC local.
