Information Memo

Summary

  • Due to Public Law No: 119-21, the SNAP Work Requirement waiver for the State of Illinois will be ending. This change could occur as soon as 11/01/2025.
  • Active SNAP customers who have been identified as Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) who do not have an exemption or who are not meeting the work requirement, will be mailed a Client Notice informing them of their status as an ABAWD.
  • The law has introduced other changes to the SNAP Work Requirement. Information on these changes will be forthcoming.

Client Notices are being mailed out to active SNAP households that include individuals who are considered Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) who may be subject to the SNAP Work Requirement. Identified households will be mailed: CN 25.10/25.10S Notice of SNAP Work Requirement Changes.

In the mailing they will also receive a form titled, Request for Exemption (IL444-2341). The IL444-2341 lists all possible SNAP Work Requirement exemptions and allows customers to request one or more of them. Customers are instructed to complete and return the form if they believe they qualify for one of the exemptions.

This is a voluntary form that does not have to be returned however, if the customer does not have an exemption or is not meeting the SNAP Work Requirement after the waiver ends, they may be assigned countable months towards their 3 month SNAP time limit.

Additional information for staff regarding ABAWDs and the SNAP Work Requirement will be forthcoming.
