National Accuracy Clearinghouse (NAC) System
The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (Farm Bill) required Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to establish an interstate data system, known as the National Accuracy Clearinghouse (NAC) to prevent the issuance of duplicate Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to the same individual simultaneously.
State agencies administering SNAP must provide information about participants to the NAC, conduct matches against the NAC to discover and prevent interstate duplicate participation, and take appropriate action when matches are found. NAC information can only be used for preventing duplicate participation in SNAP. The information cannot be used for other purposes or programs. The individual's name, Social Security Number, and residency is used for matching.
Currently only the states listed in the table below have implemented the NAC process. Alabama is expected to implement later this year, and all states are expected to comply by the year 2027. A manual release, Heads Up, and IES alert will be provided to inform staff as additional states join the NAC.
