DDD TECHNOLOGY UPDATE

IDHS-DDD is excited to share that we are partnering with the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) to begin the update of the first and oldest part of the billing system in FY25. We have engaged with IBM to transition from Lotus 123 to Provider Rate Calculator System (PRCS) as well as to develop a proposal for updating the remaining billing system. We will share updates as the transitions occurs. This should not impact DDD provider billing, and it will offer technological and functional improvements once completed.

IDHS-DDD STRATEGIC PLANNING PROJECT

Over the next several months, Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities (IDHS-DDD) will be inviting individuals receiving services, families, advocates, providers, front-line staff, trade associations, and other stakeholders to offer insights and feedback on the future of DDD services as we work to build our next 5-year strategic plan. This will include surveying, focus groups, and other opportunities to give voice to how individuals want to receive services that will support them to achieve their wants, needs, and dreams. Look for a schedule of opportunities to engage in the next few months.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACCEPTANCE - JANUARY 20, 2025

The International Day of Acceptance is dedicated to the social acceptance of persons with disabilities and to honor the late Annie Hopkins (1984-2009). The vision of Annie Hopkins and her brainchild 3E Love (founded by Annie and her brother Stevie) aims to make the world a better place by educating people about the importance of embracing diversity.

What is acceptance?

Acceptance can formally be defined as the recognition of a situation, process, or condition without any attempt to change it. In simple terms: acceptance is perceiving reality as it is. In an ideal world, all individuals would be accepted just as they are, no matter how different, no matter how unique.

Who does this effect?

Annie Hopkins created the Symbol of Acceptance to show a wheelchair in the shape of a heart. This symbol helps to unify people of all abilities. 3E Love prints merchandise with the acceptance symbol as the main focus. Hopkins hoped this new symbol would generate conversations and, in time, help change attitudes toward others for the better. The three E's in 3E Love stand for EMBRACE, EDUCATE, EMPOWER.

Why does this matter?

Just like Hopkins, there are many individuals with developmental disabilities who fight daily to pursue passions, dreams, and talents in a world that often tries to limit their access to these things. This observance date highlights love and acceptance for their worth. The International Day of Acceptance is celebrating anyone who demonstrates what is possible when you love life.
