When a client reports a change of address to the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), and the old address reported to the USPS matches the name and address on the CDB, the system will automatically update the address on the CDB. All active cases are run through the NCOA update process each month on the day after schedule 09 cut-off.
Example 1: Mr. Ed's address on the CDB is Address A. He reports to the USPS that he moved from Address A to Address B. When the CDB is run through the NCOA address update process, the system automatically updates his address.
Example 2: Mrs. Jones' address on the CDB is Address A. In February she moved from Address A to Address B, but her new address was not updated on the CDB, nor was it reported to the USPS. In August she moves again and reports to the USPS that she moved from Address B to Address C. Because the CDB still contains the first address (Address A), which does not match the old address (Address B) reported to the USPS, the address will not be updated on the CDB when it is run through the NCOA process. Mrs. Jones reports her new address to her caseworker, and the worker updates the address on the CDB.
