Minutes

I. Welcome

II. Ground Rules and Expectations

  • Review of norms
  • Approval of November minutes: Motion to approve as written by Dr. Tracy Cooper, seconded by Amanda Albright. None opposed, minutes approved.

III. Summary of prior discussion

  • The group reviewed the summary of previous discussions that was shared via email
  • Members also shared feedback on the questions contained in the document; some highlights of the discussion are summarized here
  • Workgroup members like the idea of having a resource to support the credentialing process; having links to all relevant resources in one location makes them easier to locate; this is especially important for processes you only do every three years
  • A credentialing checklist with timelines could be helpful for personal use, but also when being asked to support someone coming into EI.
  • Amanda asked if we expect everyone who goes through Systems Overview to credential or if our success rate is typical
  • Would be nice to have an online application process where applicants cannot move on if something isn't completed; it could be helpful to have instructional videos embedded throughout the process.
  • All agree these resources should be housed at Provider Connections.
  • Suggested having a dedicated navigator at Provider Connections to answer questions and serve as a single point of contact across each entity to get providers through the process; monthly office hours for those working through the credentialing process could also be helpful so people have a time when they know their questions can be answered.
  • Clearer communication around where applicants are in the process (both initial and renewals) would be helpful and alert people to problems.
  • To raise awareness about early intervention, it was suggested that outreach be conducted with PT, OT and SLP schools to encourage new grads to consider EI.
  • The initial 120/240 hours are daunting when providers are working other jobs. Can there be consideration for adjusting for experience?
  • The most helpful thing for retention would be to address the issues with billing. People need to know that they will be paid for the work they do.
  • Are there processes that can be improved or simplified without a rule change? Can there be additional training courses for billing, the payment process, and credentialling?
  • It would also be helpful if providers could get emails directly from Provider Connections (rather than having to go to website) when new information is posted. This could assist with ensuring providers are aware of notices, updates, and changes.
