Summary

  • Beginning 11/15/2024, FCRC staff may see an increase of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applications from students of higher education.
  • A notification being sent by the United States Department of Education to students whose Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information indicates they may be eligible for SNAP could result in an increase in SNAP applications.
  • Staff should be advised to review policy for students of higher education found in PM 03-04-03 and corresponding PM and WAG information when receiving applications for SNAP from students of higher education.

Students of Higher Education and SNAP Applications

Beginning 11/15/2024, an increase of SNAP applications from students of higher education may occur due to a notification sent by the Department of Education to students whose Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information indicates potential eligibility for SNAP benefits. 

FCRC Action to Take

Students of higher education are eligible to participate if the student meets the eligibility requirements.  FCRC staff are advised to review policy for Students of Higher Education found in PM 03-04-03. There is no change to policy or procedures for students of higher education at this time.
