Application Guidance - Section 5 Store Point of Sale (POS) System

The Illinois WIC Program processes WIC transactions and reimburses its Vendors using the Illinois WIC EBT Card. This process is done by electronic benefits transfer (EBT).

All new WIC vendors must be able to accept WIC with an Integrated Cash Register System unless they meet participant access criteria. "Integrated System" means a network of cash registers in a store that is capable of processing WIC EBT transactions through a third-party processor (TPP). Integrated cash registers must be able to provide a benefit balance prior to WIC purchase and a receipt including the remaining monthly benefit balance to WIC clients. How will your business transact WIC Cards?

If your store uses a cash register and a separate POS device, the Department will review the application to determine if you meet participant access criteria. If you do not, you will not be eligible for a stand-beside POS device, and your application will be declined. Once you have an integrated POS system with an eWIC-certified POS provider, you can request an application again anytime.

Who is your POS Provider?

Select your POS Provider from the eWIC Certified POS Providers drop-down in Illinois. If you do not already have a relationship with one of these POS providers, you must initiate one before you can be authorized to accept WIC.

This information will help us contact you and the POS provider directly if there are any issues with EBT Processing in the future and ensure that eWIC Certification goes smoothly.

Who do you use as your Third-Party Provider for Electronic Payments?

Select the TPP through which your payments are processed. If your POS Provider does not work with one of the ones listed, select Other and name the TPP.

Provide the number of cash registers in the store that can complete WIC transactions.

If yes, specify how many of your cash registers are self-checkout.
