(FCRC)
Determine which of the following situations exist when:
- a caretaker relative is absent from the home; and
- the absence is expected to exceed 90 days.
New Caretaker Relative Available - Not Payee for Any Other TANF Case
If a new caretaker relative is available to serve as payee and is not a payee for any other TANF case:
- Delete the absent caretaker relative.
- Establish relationship.
- Complete the application process.
- Change the case ID number.
- Assign new caretaker relative as payee.
New Caretaker Relative Available - Payee for Another TANF Case
If a new caretaker relative is available but is already payee of an existing TANF case, take appropriate action based on TANF filing unit policy (see PM 04-01-01).
Separate Filing Units
If the children in the absent caretaker relative case cannot be included in the existing case of the new caretaker relative:
- Delete the absent caretaker relative.
- Establish relationship.
- Complete the application process.
- Change the case ID number.
- Assign new caretaker relative as payee.
Same Filing Unit
If the children in the absent caretaker relative case are required to be included in the existing case of the new caretaker relative:
- Establish relationship.
- Complete the application process.
- Cancel the absent caretaker relative's TANF case.
- Add the children to the new caretaker relative's existing TANF unit.
New Caretaker Relative Is Not Available
If a caretaker relative is not available to serve as payee, consider the option of establishing a temporary payee for up to 90 days (see WAG 16-02-00). If this is not an option, cancel the case.
