This capacity-building training is designed as an 8-hour workshop to initiate a transformative journey towards the work of racial healing by fostering a culture of dialogue within the City of Carbondale. This interactive workshop by the Sustained Dialogue Institute, in partnership with the City of Carbondale, aims to equip attendees with enhanced facilitation skills, empowering them to lead constructive and inclusive dialogues about difficult topics, but most specifically dialogues about racial inequity.
This workshop will provide tools and concepts to help maintain peace, balance of power, and make everyone feel a sense of belonging and inclusiveness regardless of skill level or background. By integrating principles of equity with a systemic and relational lens to dialogue facilitation, participants will develop a deeper understanding of complex issues, improve communication across diverse perspectives, and cultivate an environment that promotes collaborative problem-solving and innovation. Through experiential learning activities and reflective dialogue sessions, this workshop seeks to lay the foundation for sustained dialogue practices that promote critical thinking, empathy, and mutual respect which will allow participants to engage in racial healing dialogues with care and meaning.
