Minutes

I. Welcome

II. Ground Rules and Expectations

  • Review of norms
  • Approval of May minutes: motion to approve by Amanda Albright, second by Rob Derry. No opposed.
  • Workgroup member introductions for new members

III. Cross State Research

  • Overview of responses to past questions.
  • Which recommendations feel particularly relevant to our charge?
    • Narrowing down recommendations; recognizing work doesn't end when the recommendations are made. May need to revisit components to ensure long term changes to ensure we do not lose those less pressing issues now that may be a priority in the future.
    • Some of these may be difficult to operationalize, e.g. differential pay and how the state captures the number of providers within that community
    • Concerns about challenges with quantifying certain aspects, e.g. credentialing information tells us how many people exit and enter, but we can't tell if we lose full time and gain a part timer.
    • Service delays are exacerbated when providers do only evals in an area
    • New direct service providers have difficulty accessing families since they cannot do initial evals.
    • Some providers can't stay in program due to lack of benefits.
    • Drive time factors into a lot of things
    • Given the backlog over the summer months, is there a way to use an early childhood partner to alleviate some of the summer crunch? Suggestion of temporary providers that can cover summer and transfer to regular providers in the fall. Could school therapists that are not working in the summer work temporarily in EI?
  • Are there recommendations that you have concerns about?
    • Change is needed for funding for providers and CFCs. Some expressed concern for how this works- will it be messy, does it leave additional room for error, or unethical decisions?
    • As someone who has employees - careful to offer items that won't be long term. It will upset providers if you take away something that they perceive as a benefit. These short term "benefits" may recruit more providers initially and then lead to a huge loss of providers shortly down the road if the perceived benefits of being an EI provider are not sustainable.
