2024 National Substance Use and Mental Health Services Survey (N-SUMHSS)

The Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (IDHS/SUPR) is asking licensed substance use disorder treatment organizations to complete the 2024 N SUMHSS when contacted in March 2024.

  • This annual survey, sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), collects data on the location, characteristics, and utilization of substance use and mental health treatment facilities throughout the United States and its territories.
  • SAMHSA and other Federal, state, and local agencies and behavioral health care professionals use the data to identify trends and gaps in our nation's treatment services.

By participating in the N SUMHSS, your facility may be eligible to be listed on FindTreatment.gov which may help potential clients you do not currently serve to reach you. Also, by participating, your facility will be represented in analyses and reports describing substance use and mental health treatment in the United States.

  • A program representative from every IDHS/SUPR-licensed organization that delivers substance use disorder and mental health services are encouraged to complete the N SUMHSS.
  • The survey should be completed by a person knowledgeable about your facility's daily operations.
