590 Mobile Crisis Response Teams Training Plan
- Developed by a workgroup of DMH staff and UIC Crisis Hub staff informed by subcommittee conversations and the expertise of subcommittee members.
- Designed to enhance the mobile crisis response teams' knowledge, skills, and attitudes as well as the peer support workers, recovery specialists, engagement specialists, and crisis counselors. The aim is to intervene effectively with individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.
- Presented today for discussion; then, we will revise the Training Plan according to the feedback received.
- Four instruction areas. Each area has Core Courses and Required Courses.
- Recommending the 590 Providers train their staff on the Core Courses.
- Crisis Hub will provide the training on the Required Courses.
Discussion
- Tanya Cooley - Will UIC provide some Core trainings? Concern that they won't be able to standardize it. Terry Solomon's response - UIC will coordinate with the providers to conduct the training. Our goal is to ensure that the material is standardized.
- Michelle Churchey-Mims - Will courses be virtual? Terry Solomon's response - As we move forward, we will reconsider, but right now, all courses are virtual and synchronous for FY 2025.
- Amanda Lake - Suggestion to change substance use content language in the plan to reflect that it could be a substance use crisis on its own without a co-occurring mental health crisis. SUPR will continue to offer training support.
- Michelle Churchey-Mims - How are providers for pilots decided? Lorrie Jones' response - the ones we are working with first are using PowerPhone, so the pilots relate to the PSAPS, and then the PSAPS are connected to the 590 programs.
- Michelle Churchey-Mims - What are their contracts' current 590 training requirements? Lorrie Jones's response - kind of. This Subcommittee and SAC need to approve training requirements per the legislation. Michelle Churchey-Mims requested clarifying the language in the Training Plan to explain this issue.
- Joe Croegaert - are you open to equivalency training on some of these subject areas? Some providers are mandated to do some of this, so maybe they don't need to do additional if it overlaps. Terry 'Solomon's response - we will work with you to make sure that the training is consistent with the legislation. We also do not want to put undue hardship on the agencies, so we are open to that.
- Terry Solomon - Please email me by Jan. 31, 2024, if you have further feedback or changes, and we will include them in the revision. Today's suggestions will be incorporated in the revision.
- Lorrie Jones - would like this plan to be approved on Feb. 6, 2024, so that it can be presented to SAC on Feb. 13, 2024.
