.IDHS/SUPR Commemorates Overdose Awareness Day
August 31st has been designated as International Overdose Awareness Day. To commemorate this day, the Director of the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (DHS/SUPR), Laura Garcia, is extending an invitation to attend a virtual event on August 31, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The event will highlight overdose prevention practices in Illinois that improve healthcare outcomes and reduce overdoses for people with opioid use disorder.
Presenters include Representative La Shawn K. Ford, Dr. Sarah Pointer, Pharm D., Clinical Director of the Prescription Monitoring Program, Bureau of Pharmacy & Clinical Support Services, Richard Weisskopf, IDHS/SUPR's State Opiate Treatment Authority, Dr. Nicole Gastala, IDHS/SUPR's Medical Director, Kathleen Monahan, IDHS/SUPR's Statewide Opioid Response Administrator, Ron Vlasaty, CEO of Family Guidance Center, and Ashur Shiba, Overdose Prevention Advocate.
