Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is protected income and cannot be used to meet the needs of any other person.
For an AABD Medical client who lives in the community, an SSI lump sum payment is exempt income. See PM 08-02-07-b for complete information on SSI lump sum payments.
For an AABD Medical client in a long term care facility, DHS facility, or other medical facility, an SSI lump sum payment is nonexempt income when received. The lump sum payment is available to meet the needs of the person who received it for the
established one month period (see PM 08-02-07-b).
