SUBJECT: Illinois WIC Vendor Notice 23-01 - WIC Cashier Trainings Now Available
DATE: February 1, 2023
We are excited to announce that the IL WIC Vendor Unit, in collaboration with the Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA), has published an approximately 30-minute training specifically designed for front-end staff at WIC Authorized stores and it is now available for you to use!
This training reviews the basics of a WIC Transaction and how to troubleshoot some common issues that may arise from a cashier perspective. You may access these trainings from any device with access to the internet and audio capabilities at https://wic.irma.org. Select the training that best suits your store's cash register system set-up:
- The Cashier Integrated training is specifically designed for cashiers working in stores with integrated multi-system point of sale devices.
- The Cashier Stand-Beside is specifically designed for our smaller stores with a separate device to process WIC transactions.
Please note that while these trainings are not required, we strongly encourage all front-end staff complete these trainings, and that these trainings be included as part of the on-boarding process of new employees that may deal with WIC transactions at or above a cashier level.
The Cashier training does not meet the requirements of the annual training which is required of at least one manager or supervisory level employee from each store location. Information about the annual training requirements and reauthorization process will be published in early March 2023.
If you have any questions, we strongly recommend referring to the DHS WIC Vendor page (www.dhs.state.il.us/wicvendor) for up-to-date information and regular updates about the WIC Vendor Program.
