Cash Cases
In determining the total amount of resources available to an AABD Cash case, use the resources of any person in the home who is legally responsible for the client, such as a spouse. Do not use the resources of any person in the home who is not legally responsible, such as the client's child. Apply the total amount of available resources to the resource limit for the unit size.
To determine the resource limit, include all persons in the home for whom the responsible relative and the client are legally responsible.
If total nonexempt resources are greater than the resource limit, the client is ineligible for cash. If all other eligibility factors are met, review eligibility for medical.
Medical Cases
When deciding the total amount of resources available to the Medical unit, use the nonexempt resources of everyone in the home who is included in the Medical Standard. Apply the total amount of available nonexempt resources to the resource limit for the unit size.
If total nonexempt resources exceed the resource limit for the unit and all other eligibility factors are met, enroll the case in spenddown. See PM 15-08-00 to figure eligibility for spenddown.
For both AABD Cash and Medical do not use the resources of a responsible relative not living with the client (see PM 09-02-04).
