Minutes

  1. Roll Call
    1. Dave Hodges & Bonnie Ballard
    2. Quorum was not reached for meeting on 5/12/222.
  2. Review and Approve Previous Meeting Minutes - No prior approval of minute meetings is available for this LAC. Therefore, no need to review or approve them
  3. Appoint LAC Lead Contact
    1. Interim LAC appointed by the group is Dave Hodge, Director at Youth Hope. Dave also provided the names of Jerry Jones, director at King Center & Moses Robinson, alderman, as potential LAC members.
  4. Determine Schedule for Summer Meetings
  5. Discuss and Complete Summer Recommendations Exercise
    1. The exercise was not completed during this session. Instead, the LAC group will convene with all members and submit by the deadline date of Friday, May 20, 2022. Dave Hodges is taking the lead on this assignment.
    2. A user had difficulty figuring out how to edit the Summer Recommendation Guide. If possible, I would recommend having this form available to LAC via a shared google form where all parties can view, edit, or comment online and live.
    3. Clarification on wording for the first qualitative question came up in regard to how violence prevention programming is being defined, wondering if including youth or adults or both.
    4. Group had difficulty understanding "Where should violence prevention programming be focused (specific blocks, census tracks, neighborhood)?" He was not sure if the question was asking for neighborhood areas (district or zone level) or specific problems, so he gave an overall summary of high crime areas but was unsure how to examine or interpret crime based on neighborhood data. It would be great to provide LAC members with neighborhood composition data that is easy to understand or as part of the resources for the group.
  6. Other Business
    1. A question came up by Dave, who wanted to know how many people they are allowed to invite to the LAC. Please, follow up with Dave for guidance on the recruitment process.
    2. One user had difficulty navigating Zoom controls. I was able to assist the user with navigation issues. Another opportunity to provide resources to LAC members with Zoom navigation instructions or links to Zoom tutorials.
    3. Dave mentioned that it would be great to see the Data Profile sheets updated as the numbers reported are pre-COVID and might be no longer representative of their community.
    4. Dave mentioned that he was unfamiliar with the acronym of OMA. It would be great to point LAC members to aGlossary of Termson the IDHS website as an introduction to terminology.
    5. Our group ran out of time, and I was unable to turn off the recording before being pulled back to the main session. I would recommend stopping the breakroom session 5 minutes prior to the allotted end time to allow facilitators to wrap up the session and turn off the recording before returning to the main session.
  7. Next Meeting - To be determined.
  8. Adjourn
