Shelter Care Rate Increase
The AABD Cash Assistance Standard includes an allowance for customers residing in a shelter care facility. Effective 07/01/2022 the allowance for individuals receiving AABD cash assistance and living in a shelter care facility, will receive a 10% increase. The shelter care allowance rates are based on a point-count assessment of the customer's needs and the county where the facility is located. IES has been updated with the new rates for active AABD cash cases receiving assistance for shelter care. Workers will use the new rates effective 07/01/2022.
FCRC Actions
Active shelter care cases have been identified and a list distributed to the FCRCs for review. FCRC staff need to review the cases and ensure the correct shelter care rate is being used.
Staff can locate the appropriate point-count assessment used for the shelter care rate in IES on the Shelter Care-Details page located under the Living Arrangement. Some shelter care cases have not received the appropriate increases in the past and will need to be issued cash supplements.
In order to ensure shelter care customers receive all the benefits they are entitled to, staff will need to review the shelter care rate being used in the AABD Allowance-Details page in IES. Staff will need to hand-calculate for any past months where the shelter care rate was not updated prior to 07/01/2022, using IL444-2382 and manually issue past payments due the customer with IL444-410 through the Exceptions Processing Unit.
