Summary

  • Due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) declared on January 27, 2020, this policy memo under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (P.L. 116-127; the Act) as amended, Pursuant to Section 1101 of the Act through Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), provides information and guidance regarding Child Care Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits for children under the age of 6 years old for 2021-2022. The child must have received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in a household for one or more months between the date range of August 2021 through May 2022 and their child care facility is closed or operating with reduced attendance or hours.
  • The child(ren)'s eligibility will continue to be determined on a month-by-month basis, pending they meet the eligibility criteria.
  • The child(ren) must have been under the age of 6 as of October 1, 2021.
  • For the months of 08/2021 through 12/2021, the average is $31.77 for each month.
  • The average amount for 01/2022 through 05/2022 will be determined at a later date and a notice will be sent to eligible children.
  • Child Care P-EBT benefits will be systematically issued for each of the eligible months of 08/01/2021 through 12/31/2021 on 06/11/2022-06/21/2022 and 01/01/2022 through 05/2022 on 07/11/2022-07/21/2022. Any remaining supplemental benefits will be issued on 08/11/2022-08/21/2022 and will be viewable in the Benefits Summary in IES.
  • Client notice 22.04 Notice of Child Care Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Benefits will be sent to households with eligible children.
  • No action will be required by FCRC staff; however, customers may be directed to the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) website and the Child Care P-EBT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Child Care P-EBT 2021-2022

The child(ren)'s eligibility will continue to be determined on a month-by-month basis, pending they meet the eligibility criteria.

  • The child must have been eligible for SNAP benefits for the benefit month in question.
  • Child was under age 6 as of October 1, 2021.
  • An eligible child may receive Child Care P-EBT benefits as long as they have not received School P-EBT benefits for the same benefit month in question.

Child Care P-EBT Benefit Amounts and Issuance Dates

For the months of 08/2021 through 05/2022, the average amount issued will be $31.77 for each month. Child Care P-EBT benefits will be issued during the designated time periods as follows:

Note: The average amount for 01/2022 through 05/2022 will be determined at a later date and a notice will be sent to eligible children.

IES System Changes

Systematic benefit issuances will occur in IES beginning 06/11/2022. Benefits may be viewable on the Benefits Summary in the left-hand navigation screen.

FCRC Action

No action is required by FCRC staff. Customers may be directed to the IDHS website and FAQs with questions regarding Child Care P-EBT.

Client Notices

Client notice 22.04 Notice of Child Care Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Benefits will be sent to households with eligible children. An additional client notice will be sent at a later date for the 01/2022 through 05/2022 benefit period.
