Kankakee LAC Kick Off Meeting

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

2:00 pm to 4:00 p.m.

via Zoom

Objectives: To meet to discuss review of the toolkit, profiles, next steps, and action items.

  1. How does this align/not align with what you know about your community?
  2. How does this data help you start shaping your goals?
  3. What additional information do you need to inform your decisions?
  • Members discussed how the data reinforces what they see on a day-to-day basis in our community. Members understand the data and see the effects of it every day. Members note that unfortunately, the data proves that the issues are real. They see it firsthand in the public safety industry. The police and fire see it real time. It is noted that what they are seeing now is an increase in Juvenile shootings more so than in the past. Their shared cases are difficult to work and much of the shootings are retaliatory.
  • Members noted they haven't had time to review all the data. They are aware of daily reports. The problem with the intervention is that it is never ending. The city has workers in school and private organizations trying to intervene with these troubled youth.
  • Members would like more data about the youth -key population in the community that needs additional support/wrap around services. Members noted to make a case to make deeper investments in youth further upstream and create meaningful programs/supports that can interrupt and stop the violence.
  • Members would like to know how they can tie the data to evidence-based practices? Need to engage youth -perhaps survey results, or interviews?
