Policy Memo

Summary

The entire State continues to be exempt from implementing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Work Requirement Time-Limited Benefits policy through 06/30/2022.

  • A waiver extension granted by Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) allows Illinois to continue to waive the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Work Requirement Time-Limited Benefits policy in all counties from 07/01/2021 through 06/30/2022 due to the extension of unemployment benefits to Illinois residents.
  • The SNAP Work Requirement limits an able-bodied adult age 18-49 years old to 3-months of SNAP benefits in a 36-month period when the policy is in effect. In Illinois, the 36-month period is a fixed 3-year period from 01/01/2021 through 12/31/2023.
  • The Family Community Resource Centers (FCRCs) will be notified of any change in the SNAP Work Requirement policy prior to the expiration of the 06/30/2022 waiver extension.
