Community Supervision of Persons with Complex Diagnosis to Support Outcomes

Working to make people successful within their own community requires an astute eye for barriers and strengths. People we serve are much more than what we see in the office or court setting. Outreach into the community and homes makes a significant difference in stability and outcomes. Service providers, probation officers, etc. can see problems that a consumer might not recognize as a problem, may lack the tools to address, or may be reluctant to discuss. By ongoing assessment driven interventions and support in the community, people with complex co-morbid disorders can do much better. This presentation will discuss some of those skills via Risk, Needs and Responsivity principles.

Helen is a retired prosecutor and Chief Probation Officer who worked in the criminal justice system for 30 years. After retirement, she consults on justice reform, and on treatment court models, including two-day behavior modification presentations for treatment court teams. She has personally trained in all 50 states, internationally, and has continued training virtually during the COVID era, on a variety of topics focused on improving outcomes for persons in the Court system.
