Residents of public or private nonprofit residential shelters for battered women, or battered women and their children, can qualify for SNAP benefits using special rules. If the shelter serves others, the women and children must be staying in a section of the shelter set aside on a long-term basis for battered women and children only.
Battered women and children temporarily placed in a private home as an extension of the shelter, also qualify for using the special rules.
Residents of shelters for battered women and children are entitled to expedited service using the special rules. Residents must meet all eligibility factors using the following special rules.
