Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) in the K-12 Classroom

This presentation explains Wellness Recovery Action Planning and the steps necessary for a plan. The importance of wellness and its impact on classroom learning will be explored. Audience will gain an understanding of the planning process and how it can be used in different classroom settings. Examples of how to implement social and emotion education into Common Core Curriculum goals will also be provided. WRAP guidance will be provided to allow audience to meet the needs of students K-12 with differentiated WRAP plans.

Sarah is a former 6-12 grade Illinois educator and intervention specialist. She began her career with IDHS in 2016 after completing a graduate degree in Multidisciplinary Human Services and worked as a Home Services Rehabilitation Counselor and Rehabilitation Services Advisor. Sarah worked for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services as an EPSDT policy advisor and Program Manager for the Medically Fragile, Technology Dependent (MFTD) waiver program.
Nanette V. Larson, CRSS, CPRS, Illinois Department of Human Services - Division of Mental Health
Nanette Larson is a nationally recognized leader in mental health recovery who has spent the last twenty years providing leadership in Illinois' public mental health system. She currently serves as IDHS/DMH Deputy Director for Wellness & Recovery Services. Nanette is an Emotional-CPR practitioner, and advanced-level facilitator for Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), and a certified Recovery Support Specialist. She recently published her first book, From Shattered to Restored: Recovering Hope, Discovering Purpose.
