MR #21.17: Entire State Continues to be Exempt from the SNAP Work Requirement Time-Limit

Summary

This manual release extends the exemption previously published in MR #20.17: Entire State Exempt from SNAP Time-Limits dated 09/02/2020. Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has granted a waiver extension which allows Illinois to continue to waive the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Work Requirement Time-Limited Benefits policy in all counties from July 01, 2021 through June 30, 2022 due to an unemployment benefits extension being distributed to Illinois residents.


SNAP Work Requirement 3 - Month Time-Limit

  • Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has granted Illinois a waiver extension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Work Requirement Time-Limited Benefits policy.  Due to the extension of unemployment benefits being distributed to Illinois residents, the entire State continues to be exempt from July 01, 2021 through June 30, 2022. 
  • The SNAP Work Requirement limits able-bodied adults aged 18 to 49 who are without dependents, and do not have a work exemption, to 3-months of SNAP benefits in a 3-year fixed period if they are not working or engaged in a work activity for the required number of hours each month. The 3-year fixed period for the State began January 01, 2021 and ends December 31, 2023.
