To receive AABD Cash or AABD Medical based on disability, a person must be found disabled as defined by the Social Security Administration (SSA). The disability finding can be made by SSA or by the Client Assessment Unit (CAU).
SSA defines disability as:
"Inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of
not less than 12 months."
A child who lost their SSI due to the 08/22/96 change in disability standard is considered disabled until they reach the age of 18, if they:
