SNAP Certification Periods will Not be Extended Beyond February 2021

Policy Memo

Summary

  • SNAP households will no longer have an additional 6 months added to their current certification period. A SNAP household that is currently in a 6-month extension will continue until the end of the 6 months. The last SNAP households granted a 6-month extension have a certification period of March 2020 - February 2021, extended through 08/31/2021. See Policy Memo, SNAP Certification Periods Ending in October 2020 through February 2021 will be Extended 6 Months, dated 10/27/2020. 
  • Mid-Point Reports due in March 2021 through June 2021 will continue to be waived.
  • IES system changes are effective 04/01/2021.

No Additional 6 Month Extensions After Certifications Periods Ending 02/28/2021

SNAP certification periods will not be extended beyond February 28, 2021. A SNAP household that is currently in a 6-month extension will continue without interruption until the end of the 6 month period. These households have certification periods from:

November 2019 - October 2020 April 2021
December 2019 - November 2020 May 2021
January 2020 - December 2020 June 2021
February 2020 - January 2021 July 2021
March 2020 - February 2021

August 2021

SNAP Redeterminations

  • The Family Community Resource Center (FCRC) will need to process redeterminations (REDEs) for SNAP households with an expiring certification period March 31, 2021. This would be:
    • SNAP households that received an extension in September (October 2019 - September 2020 certification period extended 6-months to March 2021); and
    • new households approved with a certification period April 2020 - March 2021.
  • REDEs will continue to be processed for each month thereafter.

System Changes

  • IES system changes are effective 04/01/2021.
  • A system generated Cash, SNAP and Medical Redetermination Application (Form 1893) will be mailed to the SNAP households due for a REDE with certification periods ending 03/31/2021.

Mid-Point Reports (Form 2890)

Mid-Point Reports due in March 2021 through June 2021 will continue to be waived.
