Most people would rather work than receive cash assistance. We want applicants to have the support they need to find, accept, and/or keep a job while their cash application is pending. The Front Door Program was created to provide help with supportive services when the applicant:
- finds a job that will make the family financially ineligible for cash assistance; or
- wants to take a job and withdraw their request for cash assistance; or
- volunteers to engage in work or training activities and needs supportive services, such as child care or transportation.
The Front Door Community Partner designated for your office can provide help to pay for critical things needed to prepare for, find, accept, or continue employment.
When an applicant needs employment expenses to begin or keep a job and the job will not cause the family to be financially ineligible for cash, discuss with the applicant their option to withdraw the cash request. Many applicants may be willing to withdraw their cash application if they know they can receive money they need to accept a job. Inform the applicant that their application for medical assistance and SNAP benefits will continue even if they choose to withdraw their request for cash assistance.
Refer an applicant to the Front Door Community Partner when the applicant:
- needs help to accept or keep a job that makes the family ineligible for cash assistance; or
- wants to take a job offer and withdraw the TANF request; or
- volunteers to engage in work or training activities and needs help paying for supportive services, such as child care or transportation.
The referral must be signed by the caseworker and then, as a second party review, approved and signed by the FCRC Administrator or designee.
If the applicant is financially ineligible or chooses to withdraw their request for cash assistance, deny TANF and process the application for Medical/SNAP.
