The meeting was called to order by IDHS Secretary Grace Hou at 10:07 AM. Secretary Hou welcomed all attendees and led introductions.

Goals of the Social Services Advisory Council

The SSAC has been an important voice throughout the history of IDHS and Secretary Grace Hou wants to continue to rely on the individual members as well as the body to hear what is happening on the ground. Secretary noted the importance of State agencies and the services provided but pointed out the inequities created.

A brief team-building exercise was performed.

Open Meetings Act / Required Training

IDHS Chief of Staff Ryan Croke explained that official business cannot be discussed if seven or more members of the council are participating (i.e. no group emails). Agendas must be posted 48 hours in advance. In addition, Croke informed the council members of the required trainings: Sexual Harassment Prevention, Ethics and Open Meetings Act computer-based trainings

IDHS 101

IDHS 101 presentation is below. Secretary Hou presented the main materials, each IDHS Division Director presented their respective division slide.

SUPR: Dani Kirby detailed the Executive Order being signed by Governor Pritzker January 27 and invited the members of the Council to join.

FCS: SNAP changes in regard to ABAWD discussion; Niya Kelly offered to circulate webinars; Jeremy Rosen offered assistance; Leslie Cully offered contact information for questions/reporting exemptions: DHS.FCS.ABAWDs@Illinois.gov

IDHS staff will notify SSAC members of upcoming events

Amendment to Bylaws

Maria Whelan made a motion, and Michael Inman seconded the motion to approve the amendment to the bylaws. The council unanimously voted to approve the amendment to the bylaws.

Next Steps

Board Chair: council members will submit nominations and self-nominations to Katlyn to be prepared and voted on during the next SSAC meeting.

Niya Kelly made a motion, seconded by Maria Whelan to adjourn the meeting. The council members unanimously voted to adjourn.
