8/7/20 - A Message to Providers from Secretary Hou: Join IDHS in helping Illinois families get their stimulus checks!

Friday, August 7, 2020

Dear Partners,

The passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act authorized the creation of stimulus checks for individuals and families under certain income thresholds. Most Illinoisans are eligible for these stimulus checks, though many did not receive them, leaving millions of dollars unclaimed. Join IDHS in helping Illinois families today!

Stimulus check eligibility is as follows:

  • $1,200 for single taxpayers with incomes of $75,000 or less.
  • $2,400 for married couples filing jointly with incomes of $150,000 or less.
  • Plus $500 for each qualifying child (under the age of 17)
  • $1,200 for head of household taxpayers with incomes of $112,500 or less.
  • Plus $500 for each qualifying child (under the age of 17)
  • Those with higher incomes may qualify for smaller stimulus payments as well.

GetMyPaymentIL.org, a website created by the Get My Payment IL Coalition, is available to answer any and all stimulus payment questions and provides a step-by-step process to follow in order to receive a stimulus check - whether or not an individual has filed 2018 and 2019 tax returns, whether or not an individual has a bank account, or whether an individual receives Social Security, veterans, SSI, or Railroad Retirement benefits - GetMyPaymentIL can help!

Eligible individuals have until October 15, 2020, to complete any necessary paperwork to process their stimulus payment. If the paperwork is not or cannot be submitted by that date, there is still a process for receiving stimulus checks after filing a 2020 tax return next year.

IDHS encourages you to use GetMyPaymentIL - share the website with your colleagues, with the individuals you serve and support, and with the organizations with whom you work. These stimulus checks can go a long way for Illinoisans across our state.

Also, be on the lookout, IDHS will be sharing the GetMyPaymentIL information via our local offices, either in person or virtually, as they connect Illinoisans with their benefit needs. And, as always, we appreciate your partnership through these trying times.

Sincerely,

Grace B. Hou

Secretary, IDHS
