Policy Memo

Summary

  • This policy memo provides information on the extension of the deadline to file an application for Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) SNAP benefits. Applications for P-EBT benefits will now be accepted through 08/31/2020.
  • For newly approved SNAP applications, a weekly systematic process is in place to review applications that are approved in the last week. P-EBT benefits will be created for any eligible household (contains child in school that has not already received a P-EBT benefit).
  • For non-SNAP households, an application is required so that a P-EBT case may be set up in the IES eligibility system and benefits can be issued.
  • P-EBT benefits are issued for March through June 2020 to eligible households.

P-EBT SNAP Application Deadline Extended through August 31, 2020

An extension to the deadline to file a P-EBT SNAP application has been granted to 08/31/2020. Households who apply for P-EBT in May, June, July or August have eligibility back to March through June 2020 (if eligible for free/reduced-price meals during the timeframe). Applications for P-EBT benefits will be accepted through 08/31/2020.

Newly Approved Applications

For new SNAP applications, a weekly systematic process is in place to review applications that are approved in the last week. P-EBT benefits will be created for any eligible household (contains a child in school that has not already received a P-EBT benefit).

Non-SNAP household Applying for P-EBT Benefits

  • For non-SNAP households, an application is required so that a P-EBT case may be set up in the IES eligibility system and benefits can be issued. An application may be submitted through ABE and will be processed automatically, unless the application batches out for some reason, such as a social security number.
  • Paper applications that are mailed to the Central Scanning Unit (CSU) or emailed to DHS.FCS.PEBT@illinois.gov are processed by designated Central Office staff.
